Is Drupal Commerce setup to allow people to run their own shops in spaces, with OG or something similar?

Hi all,

I've been using Open Atrium lately, on a few projects recently, and I'm really impressed by how the spaces functionality essentially lets people run what amount to multiple mini-sites on a single Drupal site install, each with different features, and sets of nodes etc.

I'm not familiar with Drupal commerce's architecture at present - is this at all possible using Drupal Commerce and spaces, to use Drupal commerce like a network for hosting lots of small boutique shops as a result?

(Let's set aside issues of PCI compliance and such like for this, just for this thought experiment)

I think the code word for what you're talking about is "marketplace" and there's work going on in that area - you'll see discussion in the issue queue.
