PayPal help: where to start?

Hello everyone,
Apologies for posting such a general and uneducated question, but i have big problems with getting educated on this topic.
I would like to set up *basic* paypal integration on my site. I do not want PP to take over my Checkout, or whatever, I just want the user to head off to paypal after they chose the paypal payment method, pay there, and get back to the site.

Where should I start? I see plenty of info, but the documenatation seems cryptic/ outdated / (...insert any vice here...). The client wants to use his UK paypal business account.

Any Paypal 101 site?

Hello ivanhelquera,

Nothing specific or trivial needed. Install the Paypal module, by default a Paypal account will have the standard method available so enable and configure that part of the module. Configuration entails inputing the Paypal username and password and there are some pretty clear questions in the module settings page that asks how you want the user to interact with Paypal.

The only issue that I have found though, is when a user is sent to Paypal to enter their credit card or Paypal ID, when they finish their transaction and it brings them back to the drupal site, the commerce_checkout_complete is never thrown, so if you have any rules like emails or anything setup, they will not send.

So first, setup the module. Second, test it and see if you had the same problem as me, if you do then there is some research on this. I just gave up and switched over to just credit cards.

so does that mean configuring what's called Web Payments Standard (and the relevant DC module?)

I have the same problem coming back to the drupal site after a paypal payment. The status of the order is still 'pending'. Within the Paypal account, it does record the payment so I know that they have paid. What am I doing wrong? This is the last item before I can go live. Can anyone help?
